Sneak Peek: Notorious Nix "Graveyard Shift" pre-order now! #notoriousnix #jjreichenbach “I can’t believe I’m doing this.” Rachel set their cargo softly in a plastic bag next to a headstone.
“Seriously?” Nix said, looking up at the girl, struck yet again with the ridiculousness of their current height difference. “We haven’t even gotten to the fun parts yet.” Rachel glanced at her with a scowl. “You mean it gets worse?” Nix shrugged and pushed away from the headstone by the cemetery gate as they walked deeper back into the graveyard. “If by worse you mean better than the boring scavenger hunt for the urn, yes.” “We stole some old guy’s ashes!” This said with no small amount of moral outrage that Nix didn’t fail to notice. Rachel was overly sentimental when it came to old men. It wasn’t like Nix made her do anything. The girl was so…persnickety. This particular character trait was actually more pronounced this time around, from an external perspective. Last time she’d inhabited the girl’s skin, Rachel had been all freaked out and traumatized and largely submissive. She’d gotten more annoying in the time they’d been apart. “You’re the one who picked his ashes,” Nix pointed out. “I told you it could be anyone’s ashes, and you picked his. That’s hardly my fault.” Rachel huffed melodramatically. “You just don’t get it.” “Well it can’t all be fun, you know. Sometimes you’ve got to do boring stuff to get to the good parts,” said Nix, imparting some wisdom upon the girl. “That’s life. I thought you’d have figured that out by now.” “I hate you.” Persnickety and mercurial. Nix was already exhausted from trying to keep up with Rachel’s mood swings. The cool night air swept under the thin cardigan covering her dress, carrying with it a fetid scent that was all too familiar. “Oh, here we go.” “What?” “Smell that?” “Smell what?” “Shh, over there. Ghoul.” Nix motioned toward the creature rustling in the darkness of the small mausoleum they’d stolen the ashes from. With the concrete cracked open at the back now, it was bound to be rife with curious critters, but even Nix was impressed with how fast this ghoul had homed in on it. Must be starving, poor thing, in a cemetery this small. Best to put it out of its misery. Nix stared at Rachel when she failed to move. “Well, go kill it.” “What?” “We’re on a scavenger hunt. There’s a scavenger. Now go hunt it.” Nix Series: Book Two Notorious Nix Now Available for Pre-Order on Amazon Kindle! Release Date: July 1, 2016
